The courses below can be run in most areas of the Scotland and I like to remain as flexible as possible between East (Northern Cairngorms) and West (Locharber) as this allows us to move to where the conditions are best. Of course, if there is a particular area you would like to go to then that is not a problem.
Course content is flexible and so if you would like to mix winter skills and mountaineering that is no problem. The length of courses is flexible and normally dependant on your ambitions and experience.
Introduction to Winter Mountaineering
Outline - If you have some winter hill walking experience and want to venture in to some more challenging terrain then this is the course for you. It will allow you to develop your movement skills, revise the basic skills and learn some winter rope work without a harness. This course will take you into terrain up to grade I/II in difficulty.
Content - Over the course you will develop and revise the basic winter skills as well as learning some new ones like: snow anchors, direct rock belays, body belays, route choice and avalanche awareness.
Previous Experience - Winter hill walking.

Advanced Winter Mountaineering
Outline - If you have some winter hill walking experience and want to venture in to some more challenging terrain that requires the use of a rope this is the course for you. It will allow you to develop your movement skills, revise the basic skills and learn some winter rope work with a harness. This course will take you into terrain up to grade II in difficulty.
Content - Over the course you will revise the basic winter skills as well as learning new ones like: snow anchors, direct rock belays, body belays, route choice and avalanche awareness.
Previous Experience - Winter hill walking, some rock climbing experience would be useful
