Weather and Fitness

When you book onto a course and pay your deposit you are confirming that you are fit for the course you have chosen. The mountains in Scotland often offer harsh conditions and are larger than those in England and Wales so you should make sure that you have a good level of hill fitness. If you have any questions or concerns about this then please get in touch.

Please also bear in mind that when doing any mountain activity the weather often dictates where we go and although every attempt will be made to make sure we go to the location and do the activity you want to safety of the group must be taken into account.

I will run most of the courses for ‘Sandy Paterson Mountaineering' however at times I may not be able to. If this is the case I will employ other instructors to work for me, these instructors will always be fully qualified for the chosen activity and be full member of the Assocciation of Mountaineering Instructors. On top of this, those instructors whom I have chosen to work with are known to me personally and I can vouch for their personal skills as well as their coaching and instructional abilities.

I will provide all technical equipment for the courses free of charge; you must provide all clothing, rucksack and footwear. Please download the relevant kit list below and let me know if you need any personal technical equipment.
