Normandy

A week of tourism and culture in Normandy

Having headed south at the beginning of the week and stopping off to visit friends Laura and I have spent most of this week in Normandy, in particular in the Calvados region enjoying all it has to offer including the Cider, Camembert as well as Calvados itself! We have packed in as much culture as possible with highlights being Mont St Michel, Bayeux Cathedral and the Bayeux Tapestry. As well as culture we have also spent some time paying our respects to those who gave their lives during World War II and the Normandy Landings. We have visited many of the major sights Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, The Airborne Museum in Ste-Mere Eglise and the German Cemetery at La Cambe. However the most impressive trip has been to the American Cemetery at Colleville-Sur-Mer on the slopes above Omaha beach.

Tomorrow we head off to meet up with Luke and Anne in Interlaken for some climbing, mountain biking and Swiss National Day.
